Do as told!

There was a discussion where someone was trying to pull people into Enquiry way as afainst the japa method. Somehow this reminded me of a conversation in Talks.

Talk 55.
D.: Can advaita be realised by japa of holy names; say Rama, Krishna, etc.?
M.: Yes.
D.: Is it not a means of an inferior order?
M.: Have you been told to make japa or to discuss its order in the scheme of things?
Silence.

As I remembered this, I felt we all do this. Maybe not excatly raise question on the order, but in general, get distracted, say in the name of doubt. Only thing, the only thing that one needs to do is to stick to one what one likes or what one has been told by His Master. Nothing else. That, i feel, is the key and that is where most of us fail.

I would like to stick to the part that is in italics: ( :) )

V. As far as I can see it, it is impossible to realise the Self until one has completely succeeded in preventing the rushing thoughts. Am I right?

Bh. Not exactly. You do not need to prevent other thoughts. In deep sleep you are entirely free from thoughts, because the ‘I’-thought is absent. The moment the ‘I’-thought rises on waking, all other thoughts rush out spontaneously. The wisest thing for one to do is therefore to catch hold of this leading thought, the ‘I’-thought, and dissect it – who and what it is – giving thereby no chance to other thoughts to distract one. There lies the true value of the vichara and its efficacy in mind control.

I wholly agree with the statement that only thing to do is faithfully do whatever master has told us to do.
