Silence...

Everyone agrees that meditation is silence of everything - stopping the movement of body, of breath and mind, third one being the indispensable. How is the mind to be stopped from moving? Very simple - just be effortless. :-) yeah, it is contradicting. But just relaxing the mind is meditation. Meditation is not holding onto something - its not holding onto anything. One of the problems that one faces while doing enquiry is to physically see where the I arises from - one of the solutions to it is to not call oneself the"I", like Bhagavan says in "Self-Enquiry". That is silencing of mind. Wonderful.... wonderful is that silence when there are no words, no vision, no hearing. If absence of these can feel nice, with the mind still there, how will it be when the mind itself is not there?! I guess that is what is laya. and what happens when even the mind is itself is not there - is nirvikalpa samadhi...
